What is a trade union?

A trade union consists of workers within the same occupational group or industry and aims to promote the interests of the employee, such as higher wages and better working conditions.

Employers can't decide everything. You have a right of co-determination. There should be dialogue and negotiations between management and employees, a trade union will be an important supporter for you.

As an NITO member, you often belong to a business group. In the workplace, you then have a union representative and others you can talk to about salary and other matters.

The development of working life takes place in the tripartite cooperation: authorities, employers, employees (called the Norwegian model). The trade unions represent you as an employee and advocate for you.
